Card Tricks
Cosmopolitan Sri Lanka|April 2018

What’s the deal with business cards? In today’s super-digital age, the business card is one of the few bits of physical information we still depend on. Turns out, it’s a lot to do with positive recall and first impressions!

Card Tricks

Not enough attention is given to the importance of toting around a cardholder filled with your business/ personal cards. What’s the big deal about sharing your card with someone when you first meet? According to many behavioural studies, a person judges you within 30 seconds of initial introductions. Aside from your attire and overall presentation (duh!), the best way to ensure you’re remembered is with a business card. Names are easy to forget, especially if you’re in the market for a new job or looking to climb the corporate ladder, but a business card can ensure you remain top of mind for a potential employer.

But this isn’t the only perk of carrying a few every time you step out for meetings, drinks with the girls, weddings or the more obvious company cocktail. Here are a few more.

NETWORK LIKE A PRO

Swapping details digitally is impersonal. After all, networking is all about making genuine connections with people. Yes, sharing your contact details in a quick email is easier, but when two people are poring over their phones, the exchange becomes cold. Actual conversation and eye contact are how real relationships begin. Besides, if you really want, you can transfer the details with a click of a button on to your phone afterwards (try the Cam Card app).
