The porthole-style case and bracelet with ingot-type links remain integral to the aesthetic, as are the textured dial that evokes an eagle&rsquo;s iris, hands that call to mind feathers, and the alternating polished and matte finishes inspired by glaciers.</p><p id="4">For now, customers have the option of the XL Chrono in Chopard&rsquo;s proprietary Lucent steel A223, a type of hypoallergenic steel alloy that is more reflective and 50 per cent harder than regular steel, as well as a bi-metallic version in Lucent steel and ethical rose gold. Both versions are decidedly imposing and will make their presence felt on the wrist, though it must be said that the steel-and-gold version would do a better job if you were out for a watch to flex with.</p><p id="5">Like several other marques that have been wading into the field of 1980s-inspired luxury sports tickers, Chopard is definitely not shy about banking on nostalgia with the Alpine Eagle. At the same time, judging from the newfangled aesthetics, materials and assortment of models that include the XL Chrono, the brand shows that it&rsquo;s also capable of delivering a contemporary take on the luxury sports watch without recklessly pillaging from the past.</p>
