The camera features a 24.1MP back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor, along with the DIGIC X image processor. It has a native ISO range of 100 to 1,02,400 that can be expanded to 2,04,800. For videos, the range goes from 100 to 25,600, which is expandable up to 1,02,400. The electronic shutter and mechanical shutter can shoot up to 30fps and 12fps, respectively, along with AF/AE tracking. It is also possible to achieve a shutter speed of up to 1/64,000 sec with the electronic shutter.

Its Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system features 1053 automatic AF points. The Eye Control AF function allows users to select a focus point by purely using the movement of the eye. It can perform up to 60fps of AF calculation and tracking, as well as has a low-luminance AF limit of -7.5 EV.

The camera offers 10-bit HEIF file format. HDR-PQ-like JPEG images with improved highlight gradations can be converted from HEIF files in-camera. With the HDR mode, users can achieve a single high dynamic range HEIF file from 3 HEIF composites automatically. On the video front, it is capable of recording 6K 60fps RAW or 4K 120fps 10-bit movie. High-quality 4K 60fps (oversampling from 6K) is also available, as well as Canon Log 3 and HDR PQ.
