Tread the boundary within art and fashion with the Gucci 4 Rooms project
FASHION IS NOT ALWAYS ART, and art is sometimes fashion. The arguments on this issue have always made for an interesting debate. And Gucci, being one of the most relevant and sought-after labels of the moment, crafted its response, albeit cryptically, with Gucci 4 Rooms, a virtual and physical art installation that was created in collaboration with four artists.
The creators Chiharu Shiota, Daito Manabe of Rhizomatiks Research, Mr. and Trouble Andrew (aka Gucci Ghost) were given free reign to interpret their own rooms with themes prescribed by Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele. Their installations at Gucci’s Ginza Tokyo flagship store and Dover Street Market Tokyo were daring moves that expanded the Gucci universe and made guests think about what fashion and art meant to them.
