Excess of coffee instantly increases blood pressure: An average 'person's daily caffeine intake should not exceed 300 mg - 'that's about one cup of coffee a day. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that pregnant women and nursing women should limit caffeine intake to 100 mg, as caffeine can make a baby wakeful and agitated. Children, too, should limit caffeine intake to 100 mg a day as it can make them hyperactive. People suffering from high BP should avoid coffee as it immediately increases their blood pressure. Over a two-week period, the adrenaline levels of coffee" drinkers increased by 32 percent. Their blood pressure rose by an average of three points, and the hormone levels remained high until nighttime, even when coffee was last consumed before 1:00 pm. Professor Lane said a regular boost of three points in blood pressure could contribute to a rise of five points in diastolic blood pressure, which can increase the risk of stroke by 34 percent and the chance of suffering a heart attack by 21percent.
Excess coffee increases nervous stimulation, commonly seen as restlessness and results in the inability to sleep when coffee is taken at night: Stimulation occurs before the coffee is digested or absorbed. The person will experience a more rapid flow of thoughts and the feeling of having overcome drowsiness and fatigue. But after some time, under the influence of caffeine, thoughts start following one another so rapidly that attention and focus are lost, concentrating becomes difficult, and one is tempted to take another cup of coffee. Those who use coffee regularly complain of nervousness, sleeplessness, tremors and especially headache, which are relieved only by another cup of coffee.
