Peek Into These Incredible French Homes That Explore The Classics Of Victorian Style.

Carly Evans

In his new book Perfect French Country, Shaw explores the stories of those who abandoned city life and took to the hills. Their homes vary in size and style, from restored castles and restaurants to barns and farmhouses. Despite their differences, they all emulate a wonderfully universal Victorian theme.

PATTERNS

A classic Victorian staple is pattern. Whether the designs are subtle and sparse or loud and proud, patterns in any home emulate Victorian style. Many of the homes in Perfect French Country use a multitude of patterns to convey a historic theme in their homes. As Shaw approaches one such home, he writes, “No sign of anything that might be described as ‘grand,’ no heavy wheel driving giant cogs, just the reflection of trees in still water, and a plume of wood smoke rising from a chimney.”

A humble home passed down through four generations gets a restoration and new décor. From patterned curtains to separate rooms and a patterned canopy over the bed, the multitude of different designs creates a cozy and homey feel to the home.

On Location in Mexico S.W.A.T.

A nameless stranger rolls into town and unexpectedly saves the day. It's easy to see how the 1985 Clint Eastwood Western Pale Rider inspired the drama's cinematic two-part premiere-even if gunslinger heroics are the last thing on Hondo's (Shemar Moore) mind when we catch up with him.

SOUND OFF

TRUTH BE TOLD Well, we knew the truth would be revealed in the worst way possible on DAYS about Nicole’s faithless night with Xander, and that the timing would be the most shocking, thanks to Sami and her spiteful hatred toward Nicole. But I didn’t expect to be so riveted by the confessional showdown between Eric, the injured hero who wasn’t there for Nicole, and Nicole, the lonely newlywed who, in a drunken stupor, made a fatal error that dismantled her marriage.

REAL-LIFE DAYS DUO'S ENGAGEMENT STORY

Arianne Zucker (Nicole) says she was “pleasantly surprised” when longtime beau Shawn Christian (ex-Daniel, DAYS) popped the question on Father’s Day. “Of course we’ve had conversations about a ring and things like that, but I didn’t really expect him to do the whole thing,” she begins. “I thought, ‘Oh, maybe he’ll just give me a promise ring over dinner someday.’ I literally didn’t think he was going to say what he said or do what he did. It was sort of like, ‘We’re not broke, don’t fix it. We have a great thing going.’ ”

DAYS: JAN TAKES CLAIRE HOSTAGE

After discovering that Belle and Shawn know she woke up from her coma and left the hospital on the night Charlie died, a furious Jan holds Claire at gunpoint and reveals that yes, she is the one who killed Charlie. “Jan loves to be in control and Jan thinks she’s smarter than everyone, so she’s obviously gone to great lengths to plan this murder and fake a portion of the coma,” points out her portrayer, Heather Lindell. “She is excited to finally be rid of Belle and be with Shawn, so this is kind of her moment, where everything that she’s ever been dreaming of is coming together. So then to find out that someone outsmarted her and out manipulated her? That’s the thing that makes her totally crack. That, coupled with the fact that she assumed Claire would be very, very grateful to her and Claire is anything but. Claire is still telling her, ‘I don’t want to be your friend, I don’t want you to be my stepmom,’ and Jan is confused, like, ‘Why wouldn’t you want me to be your stepmom? We’re going to be family.’ So now she’s like, ‘You know what? I’m done. I’m going to get rid of all of you to get what I want.’ ”
