The modern-day kitchen has taken on a vital role as a multifunctional space, evolving from its utilitarian roots as a place to cook food to become the social hub of the home. Advances in design and technology have also played a key role in the development of the kitchen to its present-day incarnation as a stylish communal centre.
Topic Studio sought to play up the kitchen’s status as a place to gather when tasked to dream up a culinary space for a successful bachelor living in a penthouse. Utilizing a mix of luxurious materials and finishes while incorporating the streamlined and innovative appliances from Swiss luxury brand V-Zug, the design practice developed a kitchen concept encompassing three distinct yet connected zones that let hosts entertain in style.
MEAT OF THE MATTER
“The kitchen is a dynamic gathering point for family and friends, with lots of action and interaction,” says Tan Sze Ling, founder of Topic Studio. This guided her firm’s overall blueprint of an open-concept dry kitchen with an island, which would act like an extension of the traditional dining table.
