Home to A FAMILY OF THREE AND THEIR CAT
The Brief
It was certainly refreshing for Pith Interior designer Pearlin Soh to meet homeowners with a clear vision for their new home. "They knew what they wanted, what worked for them aesthetically, and it all transpired from their first home together," says the designer of the married couple, looking back on the renovation process.
Taking design cues from their previous HDB flat, the trio worked closely together to conceptualise an improved version of their old space for this new home-one fit for raising a family.
Fortunately, the 1,066-square-foot resale condo was already in pretty good shape. Without tons of hacking work to contend with, Soh could dive straight into the space planning and cosmetic aspects of the overhaul. "It's quite a new unit and the previous owners did not install much carpentry work but instead kept to loose pieces," she says. This immediately presented her with a blank slate to work with, directing her design energy into carving out different zones for the family to chill, work and spend quality time with their new baby girl.
Seeing that the flooring of the condo was still in good condition, they decided to retain it. In the communal zones, the marble-look tiles gave the space a luxurious feel but needed some warm and welcoming touches to offset the coolness.
