Home That Serves The Unique Needs Of Its Occupants

Space Five-room HDB flat

Location Corporation Drive

Reno period 18 weeks

Home to A married couple

Budget $120K

Living room A cut-out in the “brick” TV wall was created as a fun feature for the family’s cats. Hand imprints along the beam belong to the owners’ friends, adding a warm and personal touch to the design.

First-time homeowners Gary and Geraldine imagined their dream home to cater to their lifestyles to a T. It would have a spacious communal area so that they can enjoy their weekly game of mah-jong or pool with friends. It would also sport a pet-friendly design so that their two pet cats can roam freely whilst having their own dedicated space.

They conveyed their ideas and brief to Grace Chua, designer at Notion of W, who proceeded to sketch an outline of their vision. Besides the need for a pool table, there was also the request for an island countertop, a useful feature for baking and to act as an extra hangout spot. As heavy cooking happens in this household, a more practical closed kitchen layout was also decided.
