CREATING DIVISIONS

Screens and room dividers allow home owners to make the best possible use of a home’s spaces. With compact living, more open areas and fewer walls, screens can create separate spaces in modern and clever ways, “giving you more value per square metre for your home”, says Jackie Uitenweerde, chief executive and designer at Design 11.

Leanne Van Niekerk of LVN Interiors says: “Room divider screens not only break up a room into portions with a decorative touch, but also provide an elegant and attractive way to add privacy to a room.”

“I think generally decorative architectural screens are becoming a big trend throughout South Africa. You see a lot of this in Europe and the growing popularity is driven by the scope that this product can offer,” says Kelly Cooke, co-founder of Tilt Screens.

Cooke says COVID-19 has led to investing in more functional decorative items. “Working from home, home gyms and home schooling have meant multi-purposing spaces and the need for more creative room divisions.”

FLAIR OUT THERE

Screens are not just for interiors. Frans Alexander of Frans Alexander Interiors says: “Screens used on the exterior as decorative detail can transform a space in the garden or be used as panels on a pergola for pattern and interest.”
