The breakfast NOOK

Starting your day off well begins with that perfect cup of coffee, whether it’s the alluring aromas that lift your spirits or the caffeine buzz that gets you going. Or perhaps it’s hearing the comforting pop of your toaster?

Breakfast appliances promise a fresh start to the day. Looking at what’s new on the market, we round up some of the latest trends and noteworthy innovations in coffee machines, toasters and kettles.

HOW’S IT BREW?

For some, coffee is the elixir of life; for others, it’s more of a hobby. Whichever way you lean, there’s a solution equipped for your needs, says Janice Lund of Hirsch’s Homestores.

“Buying a coffee machine is based on personal choice and on what type of coffee you enjoy drinking, whether it be an authentic espresso, cappuccino or pod-based coffee.

“Also, consider the level of convenience you desire. Do you have time to make the perfect cup? If so, the barista-style machines would be good for you. Otherwise, a pre-programmed machine is ideal for a get-up-and-go lifestyle.”

Regarding trends in coffee machines, a bean-to-cup solution is what most modern coffee connoisseurs are opting for.

“Bean-to-cup machines are arguably the biggest trend at the moment,” says Jon Molyneaux of Miele South Africa. “Bean-to-cup coffee machines produce barista-quality coffee in the comfort of your own home. This is the main reason why these machines have become the hottest commodity in the world of coffee machines.”
