A City Apartment in Stockholm Captures the Charm of 18th-century Swedish Gustavian Style.

NO OTHER STYLE CREATES ROMANTIC AMBIENCE quite like Gustavian does, according to Marianne von Kantzow Ridderstad. For many years this entrepreneurial woman delighted in assisting prospective purchasers of Gustavian furniture in her Stockholm store.

She combined her interior design talents with advising clients on the Gustavian period, but finally closed the doors on her furniture store. Marianne decided to downsize to an elegant apartment in the eastern part of Östermalm, central Stockholm, which she likened to Fifth Avenue.

Stepping out from the modest 1,600-square-foot apartment directly onto the street, she discovered beautiful shops, restaurants and elegance in abundance, attracting her to this vibrant neighborhood. Treasured items from the shop and heirlooms from Marianne’s late father had to be accommodated in her new home.
