ROMANCING THE STONE

the look

Like all good relationships, the key to expressing your feminine side in a shared bathroom is compromise. The blush basin nods to the pink interiors trend, and femininity is subtly interpreted through slender brass hardware and delicate accessories. Meanwhile, the floor-to-ceiling Alpina marble tiles, clutter-free layout and floating sink enhance the feeling of spaciousness.

1 If bold, feminine style isn’t your cup of tea, tone it down with pieces that whisper, not shout, like this neutral pink basin, dainty soap dish and pleated pendant.

2 Using subtle details to inform your colour palette creates harmony and continuity. Here, the basin matches the marble tiles’ blush-toned veins.

3 Love the look of marble but not the upkeep? Make a statement with marble wall tiles and switch to porcelain tiles (which are easier to clean) for the floor.

TERRAZZO TROPICANO

1 When mixing multiple colours and materials, stick to no more than three types of surface, and one finish per material. This will ensure it doesn’t look overworked.

2 Terrazzo is made from granite, glass or marble chips set into concrete or resin, but you can also buy smooth porcelain tiles that replicate the look.

3 Temper bright surfaces with pared-back tapware. On top of these eye-catching colours, bold fixtures would compete for attention and overwhelm the senses.

the look

There’s something spontaneous and joyful about terrazzo, and this quality lends itself to experimenting with other materials and colours. Yes, this look is bold. But the contrast between the Mandarin Stone glossy subway and matte terrazzo tiles, and those solid tropical hues against the warm terrazzo’s neutral speckles, keep it balanced.
