Shruti and Neesha update an apartment to bring in Arabian Sea views and defi ne its DNA with clutter-free design
With the Arabian Sea in one’s backyard, a cosy 1,500 sq ft of living space at hand, spewed with plenty of natural light and ventilation as add-ons, this engaging set-up defines the home of a family of three, comprising a couple in their 50s, both from professional background and an adolescent son, studying abroad. Nestled in one of the lushest parts of south Mumbai, on Carmichael Road, their home is in sync with its surroundings, inside out.
Its current avatar is the result of a smart overhaul undertaken by Mumbai-based architects, Neesha Alwani and Shruti Jalan of N+S Architects and Interior Designers. The firm strives to search for optimal solutions that result in functionality, aesthetically and economically built environments tailored to fulfill the needs of their clients. Their practice is thus geared to imprint their plans to meet the ever-evolving needs of a contemporary lifestyle.
‘We wanted beautiful open spaces with minimal physical and visual clutter,’ the clients had expressed, and this summation became the virtual blueprint for N+S. The Arabian Sea became their canvas with plenty of flora bordered along the grey-blue waters, making a show stopping splash framed into the expansive window view.
