Living in Marianne’s home in Dunmurray, in the run up to their wedding, the couple decided it was time to find a home that worked for the two of them and after losing out on two homes in Ballynahinch and Lisburn they couldn’t believe their luck when they finally secured this stunning red brick, double-fronted Victorian home in East Belfast.
‘Time was running out in the run up to our wedding day and we really wanted to be settled into our new home beforehand,’ says Marianne. ‘Luckily, when we came to view this house and made our interest clear to the owner, offering him the asking price there and then, he agreed to accept it and all fell into place quite quickly after that.’
While some renovation work had already been undertaken, such as the removal of internal walls between the downstairs room, there was still plenty that Fergus and Marianne wanted to do in order to put their own stamp on this house.
At the front of the house, the couple painted the front door in Farrow & Ball Sulking Room Pink and a lily pad tile has been laid in the porch. In the hallway, a contrasting geometric floor tile adds interest as does the Artisan Gold Effect paint from Craig & Rose used to pull out the period detailing in the ceiling above. Payne’s Grey, also by Craig & Rose, covers every other inch of this dramatic entrance hall, where Marianne has also got creative with the small, yet stylish downstairs toilet area too.
‘When we were refurbishing the entrance, we had to replace some of the stained glass and opted for reeded glass instead, partly due to budget, but also because it works in well with our love of mid-century interiors,’ comments Marianne.
