There was absolutely nothing wrong with our old kitchen!’ the homeowner laughs. ‘In fact, it was lovely. Then one day, my husband and I were flicking through a magazine and we happened to see a picture of a design by Mountfield Kitchens. We just fell in love with it! That photo really inspired us and we decided to drive down and see if they could do something similar for us.’
At Mountfield Kitchens, they met designer Michael McElhatton and were impressed by his friendly manner and creative ideas.
‘We took the magazine advertisement with us to give them an idea of what we had in mind,’ the owner explains. ‘Basically, we wanted a handpainted kitchen with an island, which was exactly what we got. But thanks to Michael we ended up with so much more! His ideas were amazing. For example, it wouldn’t have occurred to us to incorporate curved areas instead of having everything straight on. Yet, in practice, this design softens everything, giving a lovely feel to the space. He also changed the layout, maximising the area to avoid waste and give overall functionality.’
