When Peter and Damian purchased their house, they decided to bring a bit of Spanish style to their corner of south Belfast, 365 days of the year!‘I wanted to bring a holiday vibe to our home life all year round,’ explains Peter. ‘Like everyone else we love travelling and I decided to bring my love of Spanish interiors into our home. As a result we have a space that is truly relaxing and one we want to spend time in.’
Known as @thewhitehome on Instagram, Peter has adopted a typical Mediterranean colour palette which includes lots of natural earth tones and of course, plenty of white. ‘I do panic when there is any red wine around,’ he laughs.
The front living space sets the scene for this home interior with its concrete floor and white linen sofas. ‘The sofas we recovered in an off-white linen fabric and the cushions I’ve picked up over time just as I have seen them. I added a jute rug from Zara Home to add a homely feel and soften the appearance of the concrete flooring. A cactus and some terracotta pots are the perfect accessories and also help to bring the outdoors indoors. We also opened up the existing fireplace and created this double-sided one instead, which is more in keeping with the style and helps to connect our adjoining open-plan kitchen/dining space.’
Inspired by the work of Mallorcan creatives, Alvaro and Maria Antonia of Con Alma Design, and unable to ship an original from Spain, Peter enlisted the help of his good friend Lisa, who has made numerous pieces for him throughout the house, to construct the coffee table.
‘I’m fortunate to have such a talented friend. As well as this coffee table Lisa has also made our dining table and the bed frames upstairs,’ explains Peter.
