The owners of this new build home wanted a large, modern kitchen to fit the expansive proportions of the kitchen/living/dining area and they approached the team at David Oliver Designs to deliver what they were looking for.
Working with designer Katie Crehan, when it came to their kitchen design there were some structural amends that needed to be made. As Katie explains, 'Luckily the owners engaged with us at an early stage and we were able to move one external window to suit the kitchen plans during the build. I would definitely recommend engaging your kitchen designer as early as possible in the build process because there are huge benefits to be had from doing so. If you organise your kitchen plans early on, even before the build starts, then the positioning of walls, windows and so on can easily be tweaked to accommodate your kitchen layout and ensure all that you want from it can be achieved. It's surprising what a difference even a few more millimetres can make!
'High on the homeowners wish list were hidden doors into the pantry and utility room. For this, we had to extend the openings into the pantry and utility room to allow for the use of the pocket door system,' adds Katie.
