Some of you may be familiar with Niki and Davin's bungalow renovation if you watched My Bungalow Bliss on RTÉ One. Presented by Hugh Wallace, four bungalow homeowners were paired with four innovative architects to breath a new lease of life into their dark, damp and dated homes.
'Davin saw the advert looking for homeowners to take part in the show the morning after I had expressed how over I was living in this house in the condition it was in,' comments Niki. 'I am a respiratory nurse and to have our four-year-old son, Jasper, living in our damp bungalow wasn't what I wanted at all.'
As Davin adds, 'When we bought the house it had been uninhabited for over five years and we knew we had a project on our hands when we moved in back in 2015. We had attempted to start renovating a couple of times, but life just seemed to get in the way and we were always having to put it off.'
Knowing how desperate their situation had become Davin spoke to Niki about taking part in the show and they decided to put themselves forward and were delighted to have been one of the lucky four chosen. The couple were paired with Nicola Ryan and Gráinne Dunne from Studio Red Architects who are known for their exceptional eye for detail, and their eco-friendly bespoke designs.
‘Having lived in the house and mulled over renovating the property for over five years, we did come into the process with a very definite idea of what we wanted,’ explains Davin who, originally from Dublin, teaches at ATU Connemara.
