Sometimes chance plays its part in even the most carefully planned project. When Scott and Camilla Trindle, who were looking to modernise their Georgian terrace home, were introduced to another recent resident, Stuart Archer, by a neighbour, the chance encounter proved to be a game changer. Stuart, a principal at London-based Archer and Braun Architects, had recently refurbished and extended his own family home, a Georgian terrace in the same area of east London, and the Trindles were impressed by what they saw. So much so they decided to ask Stuart to work with them on the redevelopment of their own home.

FAMILY SPACE

Essentially the Trindles were looking for more space to meet the needs of their growing family. “The property was in need of refurbishment, and the kitchen was small and not suited to our lifestyle,” explain the couple. The main idea was to create a larger, more sociable kitchen and dining space with a better connection to the garden. A new bathroom was also needed. However, they were also keen to ensure that any renovation work in the main house would retain the building’s handsome Georgian character and features.
