This sleek apartment looks more like a trendy downtown loft than the four-room HDB flat that it really is, thanks to the careful curation of colours and designer furnishings by the savvy owners. MELODY BAY finds out more.

It is hard to believe that this is a four-room HDB flat when you step inside. The interior of this Holland Village home feels more like a trendy, upscale apartment in New York or London, thanks to a significant reconfiguration and attention to detail in the furnishings.

Home to a couple in their 30s and her mum, it is in sleek lines and subtle curves. They engaged Molina Hun of Parenthesis Studio for the design and renovation after searching for someone who shared their aesthetic preference for timeless, contemporary design. “We’re fortunate to have Molina as our designer,” says the wife.

One of the priorities of their brief was to have ample, bright space for entertaining friends. Molina reconfigured the place entirely, taking out the two standard bedrooms and transforming the area into a communal space for living and dining. As the wife’s mum had the master bedroom, the original living room was walled up to create a bedroom for the couple.
