The ninth edition of India Design ID saw fruition in a brand-new digital avatar. The powerful line-up included Indian and international design creatives and award-winning personalities
Arik Levy and Rooshad Shroff Moderated by Kamna Malik

DAY 1

The first ID Symposium 2021 session saw a thought-provoking discussion between architect, interior and product designer Rooshad Shroff and artist, photographer, designer and video artist Arik Levy. The hour-long session was moderated by Kamna Malik, content director for India Design ID and editor for ELLE India. Both the multi-disciplinary creatives spoke about their design ethos as well as their thoughts on emotion in design, how it ignites all the senses and the role materiality plays in their creations. “I would like to undo everything that is evident and let come through what is not,” said Levy while shedding light on his philosophy of ‘nothing is quite as it seems’ and how this notion influences his creative process. Shroff’s explained how his journey, though it began in architecture, branched out to other fields like product design by way of his exploration and investigation into materials and their properties.

DAY 2

For almost two decades, Asian Paints has produced ColourNext which presents India’s leading paint company’s colour forecast for the year. The process involves months of research and workshops exploring social and cultural shifts as well as behavioural changes backed by interviewing experts in various fields of design. With 2020 being consumed by the pandemic, Asian Paints had to adapt this process to work within the confines of the situation. The session encompassed presentations that introduced the Colour of the Year – Cherish – as well as four Colour Trends–Habitat, A Home New World, Felicity and Z Futures. The speakers were joint principal architect of Abraham John Architects, Alan Abraham, co-founder of reD Architects, Ekta Parekh, co-founder of Case Design Samuel Barclay and Chaitanya Dixit, an artist and leader in sneaker customizations. The discussion also included Amit Syngle, managing director and CEO of Asian Paints Ltd. and was moderated by Manju Sara Rajan, editor-in-chief of Beautiful Homes, a digital publication by Asian Paints.
