The Indian architect and town planner contributed significantly to the field of architecture with noteworthy projects that exemplify modernity and inventiveness while making a power packed statement. Here, Dikshu Kukreja talks fondly about his fathers modest beginnings and his impressive oeuvre
A man of humble beginnings but big dreams, my father CP Kukreja, once went to a construction site and realised that the man most respected there was the architect. It was then that he decided what his career path would be. In spite of being affected by the partition, he worked hard – sold soaps, studied under lampposts, never flinching, always striving towards his dream of becoming one of the most influential architects of modern India. He wanted to change its landscape, bringing into its fold not only beauty in design but sustainability, a concept new to that era.
