WHAT HAS BEEN AN ENDURING CREATIVE INFLUENCE?
There is an immediacy of and depth in emotional response only music can create. I was a musician before my design career; my goal is to create a work with the same immediacy and impact I’ve felt when performing or listening to some of my favourite music.
WHAT IS YOUR APPROACH TO INTERIOR DESIGN? IS THERE AN AESTHETIC OR MOOD THAT CARRIES THROUGH ALL PROJECTS?
We strive to draw out our clients’ most unique aspects, and work to create an original perspective within each project. We definitely welcome the atypical, as those parts of a personality – the quirky and left wing – are what make for interesting individuals, and in tandem, interesting interiors.
HOW DID YOU DEVELOP YOUR FURNITURE AND LIGHTING COLLECTIONS?DOES YOUR APPROACH DIFFER FROM YOUR INTERIORS PRACTICE?
When we create products, we try to exhibit a more egocentric aesthetic than that found in our interiors – something like ‘futuristic organic heirloom’. The furniture is not created for a specific individual, as are our interiors – so I am able to inject more of my own opinions into the furniture, and take chances that are harder to pull off when dealing with an entire interior. Clients tend to allow for chance and walk the path of the unknown with singular items, but take a much safer approach to the larger home. Our product collection is borne out of this opportunity: where an interior needs a firm statement, an element of refinement or jolie laide that gives the space a signature.
IS THERE A COMMON APPROACH THAT RUNS THROUGH ALL ASPECTS OF YOUR WORK?
