How many thoughts do we have in a day? Thousands for sure; add to that the input from Our sense organs, distractions from gadgets pinging, ringing and zinging all around us plus emotions and we are well on the way to tens of thousands of Vrittis or fluctuations of the mind. It is estimated that the ordinary human mind loses focus every six seconds.
According to Patanjali, compiler of the Yoga Sutras, these Vrittis can either be painful or non-painful, i.e. giving us grief or relief. Who do you think has the power to make that choice? Your parents, your kids, your spouse, your pets? Nobody but You!
