We need to overcome the shackles of Lobha, Krodha, Moha, Kama and Mada From a Parisamvada by Dr. Jayadeva Yogendra

Determination And Strength Will Serve Us Well

In the old literature, there are some typical words like Moha (delusion) and then Mada, a kind of inner feeling of superiority or strength, resulting out of confusion. Once that kind of a process starts, the sanity is lost; a person believes in them and acts on them. Unfortunately, this is the condition of most of us. We have all these ingredients. Krodha (anger) is there, Lobha (greed) is there, Moha is there. So, the point is that most of our decisions are not based on very proper considerations; hardly any deliberation occurs. We make some decision and we stick on even though we may see the harm it is causing. Naturally in yoga, the effort is not to allow our mind to get into that condition. Right at the start, Kama - some kind of desires, should not be allowed to get very strong. Once these strong instinctive desires take charge, then our thinking is affected and we cannot think in a rational way. We just go on according to the strength of the inner compulsions, the desires. This requires continuous vigilance. At what moment what thing will take charge, we should not leave it just to chance. We should be very vigilant. And that we just can't be. We are busy and as a result we allow ourselves to get into situations that we regret later on.
