Win in the Long Run

We are living in the era of New Longevity: Many of us will live significantly longer lives than any previous generation did. A number of studies are finding that many people now expect to work well into their 60s and 70s to fund their longer and healthier lives. And guess who is leading these older workforces? Older leaders. The average age of the top-performing CEOs by revenue across all industries is 59 and the average age of a small-business owner in the United States is over 50, according to Bradley Schurman, author of The Super Age: Decoding Our Demographic Destiny. These business leaders are paving the way for all people, but especially older people, to thrive in the workplace. It's all a little daunting-20, 30, perhaps 40 more years of work! and burnout is a real risk. To help you pace yourself for this longer run, we asked five trailblazing older guys to share the habits that help them stay energized and focused all day.

STRAUSS ZELNICK

FOUNDER AND MANAGING PARTNER OF ZELNICK MEDIA CAPITAL, AGE 65

NAMED THE FITTEST CEO in America by Men's Health, Strauss Zelnick is busy running his private-equity company and serving as chairman and CEO of TakeTwo Interactive Software, the brand behind the Grand Theft Auto franchise. As he thinks about staying strong and sharp while he ages, Zelnick has amped up his exercise regimen. He now works out a minimum of five times per week but usually eight to ten times a week lifting weights and doing high-intensity interval training.
