MUTE YOUR CRITIC
Everyone has an inner critic whose negative comments ignite anxiety. Alcohol suppresses this hurtful state, which is why so many people drink too much and too quickly. Each time you hear yourself say something unkind to yourself, say “STOP” in your mind, breathe it out and then voice an opposing statement such as ‘It is safe to drink alcohol slowly’ while imagining yourself sipping rather than gulping.
