Patient room design plays a key role in recovery.
The speed of recovery for a patient is definitely dependent on the clinical care provided by the healthcare system. However, non-tangible elements also play an important role in his recovery.
One of the main elements in that category will be the patient room design itself where a recovering patient spends most of his or her time. If we consider three human senses which have a very direct connect to human anxiety and wellbeing, which are sight, sound and smell, all of these three elements can be enhanced in the design of a patient room to minimise the negative impact of it to the patient.
Sight – Warm and pastel colour interiors of a patient room help a patient relax as it help disconnect from the feeling of being in a clinical zone. So does an external large window, which helps a patient to be connected to the life outside and strengthens the feeling of his wellbeing.
