Today, we’re going to talk about Cryofacials.

“Cryo-what?”, you say? Cryofacials, also known as cryotherapy facials, are facials that use -10°C cold therapy to calm the skin. It also uses cold electrophoresis or iontophoresis techniques to deliver active ingredients from creams, serums or vitamins into the skin, using low-level electric currents.

Aesthetic specialist Dr Jason Yip explains, “Traditionally, the iontophoresis technique uses heat therapy. However, in heat therapy, your blood vessels will dilate (expand). When you do iontophoresis on dilated blood vessels, sometimes the absorption of product isn’t as effective.” He continues, “on the other hand, using cold therapy, your blood vessels shrink rapidly, and this allows more absorption of active ingredients in that particular area.”
