VITLIGO-WILL-GO
Food & Health|February - March 2020
Although it is neither painful nor contagious, Vitiligo — a condition resulting in irregular white patches of skin, can be an emotional burden to people who are afflicted with it. Ignorance and inherited attitude often contribute to the stigmatization of people suffering from its effects.
VITLIGO-WILL-GO

It can often lead to difficulties in meaningfully participating in day-to-day life situations, lower confidence, and can affect all major domains of life. Many people who experience vitiligo wonder what they can do about it, and whether their dietary and lifestyle choices can prevent a recurrence or worsening of the condition.

Committed to improving the lives of those affected by Vitiligo, VITALS Klinic at Bangalore, is dedicated to understanding the reasons by which vitiligo arises and then progresses to help patients with treatment.

Vitiligo is an autoimmune condition in which the cells that produce skin pigment are attacked and destroyed, resulting in irregular white patches of skin. The extent and rate of color loss from vitiligo is unpredictable, and can affect any part of your body including affecting hair and the inside of the mouth.

It can happen to anyone, without bias towards gender, race or geographic location and people of all skin types. However, it tends to be most noticeable in people with darker skin as the contrast is more pronounced.

Symptoms of Vitiligo:

Normally, the color of hair and skin is determined by melanin. Vitiligo occurs when the cells that produce melanin die or stop functioning. The most common symptom of vitiligo is light or depigmented spots on the skin. Other vitiligo symptoms include: hair turning gray or white prematurely, eyelashes or eyebrows losing color.

However, mere discoloration does not mean Vitiligo. At Vitals Klinic, a thorough diagnosis of the patient is done before concluding to vitiligo. An examination of the margins, hair and various other factors then help the dermatologists to structure the appropriate treatment.
