Wayne's World Of Fitness

What do you do for a living?

I’m 27 years old, and was born in Rustenburg, in the North West Province. I’m currently working as a personal trainer in Silverlakes, Pretoria, and I’m a photographer specialising in weddings and fitness shoots.

How did you get involved in the fitness industry?

Even as a child I was passionate about fitness, but back then my main interest was rugby and I played well enough to make it into a few provincial teams. After school I decided to study photography to look after myself financially. I then became a professional photographer, working for the Beeld newspaper and did numerous photo shoots of celebrities and athletes.

What was it that first attracted you to the industry and the competitive stage?

It was during one of my first fitness shoots, which was with Jaco de Bruyn in 2010, that I decided that the fitness lifestyle was what I wanted for myself. I wanted to become someone who stands in front of the lens rather than behind it, with an amazing physique like Jaco’s. It was after that shoot that I took my fitness career to the next level. I also did photo shoots with legends like Juan Bothma, which motivated me even more to work harder in the gym. Witnessing first hand how so many people were taking such a keen interest in training and eating due to the influence of guys like Jaco and Juan, made me realise how much I also wanted to help and inspire other people to reach their goals. That’s when the idea of personal training and competing first popped into my head.

What did it mean to you to achieve your Pro card in the WBFF federation?

The Florida Effect: The Power Of Priming On Performance

We all like to think that we are in complete control of our actions, our mindsets, and, subsequently, our performance. But what if that weren’t true? Could it be that the words you hear on the radio or read on billboards or the pictures you see on your way to the change room could affect your subsequent performance in the gym, through their impact on your subconscious mind?Well, it just might, at least according to numerous studies into behavioural psychology that have looked at a concept known as the priming effect.
