According to the 2020 National Diabetes Statistic Report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there has been a downward trend in new cases of diabetes, with one exception—diagnosis in people younger than 20. There are 34.2 million people living with diabetes in the United States, meaning just more than 1 in every 10 people have the disease. In addition, 38 million Americans, or roughly 1 in 3, have prediabetes. That’s a dangerous number that underscores the importance of raising awareness.
