Going Beyond Tolerance
B Positive|November 2019
Tolerance is being promoted in a big way today, as if it is the best thing we can do! Suppose you had a friend in your life whose house you went to every day.
Sadhguru

Then one day, after many years, you realise that he has only been tolerating you. Would you want to go there again? If he had just told you, ‘I can’t stand you.

I don’t want to see you again,’ that would have been alright. But he just tolerated you. This is a terrible thing to do!

Have our hearts become so barren that we cannot look upon other human beings with love and affection but just tolerate them? Also, how long can we tolerate someone? After some time, it will become ugly! Therefore, it is time we speak a different language.

Acceptance is far superior to tolerance. If you are in acceptance, you go through your life gracefully, which is most important! But if acceptance is not possible for you and you get irritated about every small thing, at least you must develop tolerance. When people are not alert enough to accept every moment, they have to fix substitutes. But even though tolerance is a weak substitute for acceptance, it is definitely needed.
