The first iteration of Eduard’s long-awaited1/48 radial engined Tempest Mk II comes from a tie-in with Special Hobby. If you know the Mk V kit then most of the contents here will be pleasingly familiar, with the fine recessed panel lines, rivets, sharp details and generally good fit. Newly tooled are the fuselage halves with a separate cowling nose ring, as are the wings with oil cooler and carb intakes. A new frame supplies improved detail two-piece ailerons and elevators, a new propeller and spinner, engine fascia and extension ring, exhausts stacks (sadly, not moulded open), tropical dust intake filter or blanking plate, and a new cockpit coaming. Eduard-style colour instructions give paint callouts for GSI Mr Color lacquers and Aqueous acrylic paint ranges.
