Model Airplane News has covered the Top Gun Scale Invitational right from the start, and now in its 32nd year, Top Gun went off without a hitch in its new time slot, from October 28 to November 1, 2020. With the Covid-19 pandemic shutting down most if not all RC events in 2020, Top Gun founder Frank Tiano postponed the event from the spring, and by the time October rolled around, over 90 pilots were ready for some serious scale competition.
Hosted at Paradise Field in Lakeland, Florida, Top Gun was blessed with excellent weather. There’s little wonder why Top Gun has always been considered the best RC scale event in the world: the well-maintained and expertly staffed venue has experienced flight and static judges and ground personnel and everyone benefits from the safely run and efficiently executed competition. This year Top Gun also added a new Electric Ducted Fan (EDF) Jet Class!
