SHOWCASING WHAT YOU BUILD & FLY

Canadair CT-114 Tutor

Rick Trigatti, Grimsby, Ontario

Starting with 3-views, Rick generated CAD plans for his 1/8-scale and first scratch-built jet. His design is a combination of sheeted foam-core and balsa- and lite-ply structures and is finished with polyester dress liner sealed with water-based polyurethane. The tail cone and gear doors are fiberglass, and the canopy and nose cone dome are vacuum-formed. Rick painted his aircraft with Rustoleum and added his own vinyl graphics. The 55-inch-span jet is powered by a FMS 90mm 12 blade EDF running on a 6S-5000 battery. Rick says, “It flies very well at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and can get close to 5-minute flights. Landings are smooth. The flaps really help to slow it down and once it’s in a nice glide slope, easily flares and settles on the mains.”

Super Cub

Steve McAlpine, Cambridge, Ontario

Like father, like son! Steve refurbished his Hangar 9 Super Cub to match his father’s full-scale Piper Super Cub. His 1/4-scale model is powered by VVRC 40cc twin turning a Falcon 20x9 prop that fit perfectly under the cowl—no cuts required. He adds, “The plane has more than enough power and will also fly ‘scale.’” The aircraft is equipped with Hitec servos and an upgraded lighting system.

PRODUCT REVIEW: RC PLANE STANDS BENCHTOP MODEL

I’m a sucker for shop stuff. I buy tools I will probably never use just because they are cool, or I might need to use them someday. When Glen from RC Plane Stands reached out about a review, however, I knew as soon as I browsed their website that I would be receiving something I would use a lot, maybe even daily.
