Welcome To Jamrock

A SPEAKER IS A SPEAKER, RIGHT? Try installing and operating an automotive speaker in the marine environment and you’ll soon learn why this couldn’t be further from the truth. The unforgiving and corrosive climate is simply no match for inferior electronics.

Welcome To Jamrock

Because of the rigors associated with Florida’s saltwater environs, a significant amount of research, design and testing must go into each and every phase of a product that’s ultimately developed to provide peak performance in less than ideal surroundings. Not only must marine-grade speakers and associated electronics thwart excessive moisture, vibration and salt spray, but the open-air acoustics that come along with popular center console deck layouts make it even more challenging to produce and maintain concert quality audio.

Your onboard entertainment system must be able to evoke crisp and clear sound at anchor and at full throttle while combating a variety of ambient noises, including but not limited to wind and waves, engine noise and numerous other interferences that may be present. While flying across the water at 40 knots, a sub-par speaker system will emit nothing but distorted noise.

When it’s time to upgrade or outfit your boat’s entertainment system there are a few considerations one must make note of. First of all, one must realize that speaker systems are only limited by budget and space. Compare a 39-foot center console rigged with quad outboards to an 18-foot single powered bay boat and it’s easy to understand why there’s no set standard. The largest center consoles are routinely outfitted with dozens of speakers and subwoofers that can be individually controlled in multiple zones, while a smaller skiff might only need a pair of coaxial speakers to bring the backcountry alive with the sound of music.

A Whole Different Animal - Wild Cats that Got the Cream

MOST ANGLERS HAVE STRONG BELIEFS ABOUT WHAT HULL TYPE IS BEST. Running hard in rough water requires a seaworthy platform with the strength and stability to keep you safe, comfortable and dry. Among the different trends that have consequently become evident from the evolution of center consoles, boat builders are cornering a new niche of complex and competitive catamarans harnessing more outboard power than ever before. Breaking the barrier with innovative hull designs and deck layouts, the newest catamarans offer unobstructed fishability while providing increased fuel economy and speed per applied horsepower.

The Lotus Effect - Exploring The Science Of The Shine

THERE HAVE BEEN COUNTLESS TECHNOLOGIES AND INNOVATIONS inspired by the animal kingdom, with the science of emulating nature known as biomimetics. Evolution has perfected natural designs and environmental approaches over hundreds of millions of years, providing chemists, biologists and engineers with a perfect platform to advance modern materials and manufacturing processes. Learning the way of the lotus leaf has revealed remarkable self-cleaning properties resulting from the unique flora’s ultrahydrophobic surface architecture producing water droplets in nearly perfect spherical shape.

Underwater LEDs

MY CENTER CONSOLE WAS RECENTLY OUTFITTED with full spectrum color-changing underwater LEDs and I can’t wait to test them out. I’m aware of their ability to attract forage and predator species to the boat from dusk till dawn, but are high intensity LEDs effective at attracting life during the day? If so, what color shines brightest amid the natural light of the sun?
