The Cartier Tank has easily withstood the test of time and will continue to do so for many years to come!
KELVIN TAN
THE AGELESS ONE
The Tank watch and Cartier are synonymous with elegant watchmaking. It is art and design purely distilled to form a timepiece for the wrist that is a joy and pleasure to wear. Since its inception in 1917, the Tank has emerged top of the list for being a style icon and a necessary addition to anyone’s wardrobe. Its four-sided form was considered avant-garde in its early years but this characteristic rectangular case shape of the Tank has withstood the test of time and effortlessly remains contemporary and relevant even till today.

2021 is, in a way, a year of revival for the Tank. The Tank Must was originally launched in 1977 and now makes a comeback with a reinvigorated form. Back in 1977, it was already an evolution of the Tank and had already secured its induction into Cartier’s storied watch collection. And so, now, we are faced with a very interesting choice for the watch lover with the addition of yet another compulsory timepiece to aspire to.

Although the Tank Must and the Tank Solo are just two representations of the myriad of beautiful forms that are derived from the philosophy of the Tank, moving forward, the former will be taking on the mantle as the flagship of the series. The timeline of the Tank depicted here, allows us to understand its constant evolution and changes that result in this true legend of the horological world to always and forever be desired. Ultimately, it simply shows that every little bit of change does not act to deviate from its vision but only widens the brilliant picture that is the Tank.
