CREATIVE IS...THE ABILITY TO CHANGE
A chameleonic actor, Radhika Apte is ready for her next role— and this time it may be behind the camera, finds Rujuta Vaidya
I don’t know if I want to be an actor anymore,” announces Radhika Apte, shortly into our interview. Far from calling it quits, the definitive star of contemporary entertainment and the unofficial ambassador of Netflix India isn’t signing offjust yet—she’s just heading in a new direction. “I used to think that I can’t do anything but be an actor and now I wonder if that’s actually true. There’s nothing in life that is so concrete. As a child, I hated bitter gourd but now I love it. You change!” Apte says as she puts things into perspective in a car ride over a phone call. I am all ears because not only is the actor and budding filmmaker disarmingly honest about her challenges, she also speaks in a language most creatives can relate to, regardless of their domain. “I am not sure how to define creativity, it’s a bit of an ongoing process. It’s constant. It is the only process in me that makes other things in life easier. It helps me try different things, explore who I am,” she adds.
