As most of you must know by now, I am a pageant coach.
I get an opportunity to work with some of the most amazing and gifted women that pageantry has to offer. Women who give so much back to the community without reward or recognition. I get to know them on a very personal level especially when their platform involves a health condition that not many of us can imagine. Yet, on a day to day basis these women manage to cope and contribute so that others who share the same affliction may benefit from their journeys. This month I present to you Alexandra DeBourcy, Mrs. New York City. Alexandra has Epilepsy and up until the time I met her, I had really no clue as to what Epilepsy is and how a person manages day to day. Alexandra is proof that Epilepsy can be controlled and By:Chris a person can Franz live a normal life. Alex has also made over 120 appearances giving back to the community on so many levels.
Chris: Alexandra welcome to the Platform Magazine. Please tell our readers how and why you became involved in pageantry.
Alexandra: I did my first pageant as a married woman! During my teens and college years, when most young women get involved in pageantry, I had to concentrate on managing my epilepsy. I finally had the opportunity and time to commit to a pageant when I was thirty. Luckily, I was able to connect with my state director, Diane, through the Mrs. America and Mrs. New York America pageant. I am glad I pushed myself to get involved with pageantry; I am just a late bloomer!
Chris: Can you tell are readers what Epilepsy is and secondly, when were you diagnosed?
