The young and fiery model Amber Wang is a force to reckon with. She came to the US to study law but soon got scouted for modeling contracts. Just in her 20’s, this ambitious model has been featured in over 40 leading fashion magazines and is balancing work with studies. The model strives for sustainable fashion that she sees as an emerging trend and aims to empower other budding models in the field. Here are some excerpts from an edited interview.
You arrived in the US to study law. How did you enter modelling then? Any incident that inspired you into the fashion world?
When I was going shopping with my friend in a mall then the Barbizon modelling scout spotted me and provided me with an offer to become a model. That’s how the journey began.
What does it mean when you say you are driven by the 'liquid art of modelling'? Kindly elaborate.
The liquid art of modelling was the quote from Coco Rocha. She is my mentor and she told me that the model is like liquid art. You need to pay attention to the detail and every movement. The way you stand, the way you sit, the way you watch movies.... one has to be like walking art. Treat yourself like art and only then you’d become a manifestation of that.
You admire high-end fashion. Do you think upscale brands must make space for sustainability?
