We all have witnessed the magic of lighting. If it wasn’t for the colours popping out of the Eiffel tower at night, there is a chance that it would just be a metal structure appreciated for its mammoth size. Similarly, monuments around the world got a new life– when the artificial lighting got popularized in the late 1920s. In this day and age, the significance of architectural lighting has only increased. Not just the monumental structures but outlets for commercial purposes, residential places and industries, all have been transformed by such lights.
It is important to understand that the purpose of highlighting a space with architectural lights is not merely adding an accessory (an oddly humongous chandelier is big no in a small living room) rather creating a cohesive spatial experience. Each space requires a different visual experience, based on the level of lightness, spatial distribution of brightness, colour of lights, independent colours and shadows.
