CHANEL ELECTRO BY CHANEL HORLOGERIE

One of 2021’s most fun and captivating novelties, the immersive Chanel Electro capsule collection is inspired by the graphic codes borrowed from electronic music culture. Sprouting from the underground scene before becoming an influential mainstream mainstay and a full-fledged artistic genre with an authentic aesthetic, the radical and original all-night raves of the ’90s cannot better signify the liberty of living in the moment and enjoying the nightlife and its atmosphere.

“I conceived this capsule collection like a performance program, inviting our classics, the J12, Première, Code Coco and Boy-friend, to perform side by side on this stage, drawing their inspiration from the codes of this world,” explains Arnaud Chastaingt, Director of the Watchmaking Creation Studio. At the core of the collection’s visual palette are contrasts between colour and black or white. Kickstarting with Chanel’s J12 icon, the J12 Electro’s ceramic and steel case—available in 38 mm and 33 mm sizes powered by the Calibre 12.1 and quartz movements respectively—are accented with vibrantly coloured numerals. The J12 X-Ray Electro Caliber 3.1 and J12 Electro Star step up the luxury quotient with white gold, and baguette-cut rainbow sapphires and diamonds.

Next, the Première Electro, equipped with a high precision quartz movement, strikes a strong statement in blackened steel with a chain bracelet interlaced with multicoloured leather. Expanding on its oeuvre, the Première is further expressed through the Première Electro Box, a graphic polyptych of seven watches— each iteration juxtaposing deep black with a different neon-hued leather strap for a distinctive look every day of the week.

Completing Chanel Electro’s ode to colour is the Code Coco. Now revamped with a neon pink quilt-patterned leather strap accentuated by black braiding, the watch featuring a blackened steel design set with a princess-cut diamond is driven by a high-precision quartz movement. Taking the Technicolour club inspo incognito is the Boy.friend Electro steel version, set with 142 brilliant-cut diamonds and embellished with a robot motif. Flip over the watch’s quilted pattern calfskin strap to find the lining springing a delightful pop of surprise in neon pink.
