A tattoo is a type of body modification.
For Tattooing a design is made by inserting ink (dyes or pigments) inserted into the dermis layer of the skin to change the pigment according to the design. Tattoo can be either permanent or temporary. Tattoos has been practiced throughout the world for many centuries. Ancient mummified human remains reveals the existence of tattooing since ancient era. Tattooing can be found to be popular among various cultures and ethnic groups all over the world. The oldest known tattoos mummy was identified to dated back from 3,250 BC. According to American Academy of Dermatology, tattoos can be distinguished in five types, Natural, amateur, professional, cosmetic or medical tattoos. Traumatic or “natural tattoos” are those which are resultant of injuries, especially asphalt from road injuries or pencil lead. Amateur tattoos or Professional tattoos are those made with the help of either traditional methods or modern tattoo machines. Cosmetic tattoos are those also called as “permanent makeup” and last but not the least the medical tattoos. A medical tattoo is used as a sign that may be helpful in case of emergency, to communicate any important information, or mark a body location.
