Motherhood - Reorganize Your Priorities
Glittering India|March 2018

Motherhood is indeed an opportunity for a woman but one of the most difficult things about being a mother is that a lot of shifts have to be made in the priorities. Once you have children you can just no longer thing about just yourself. There is always a you with them. You always tend to surround your kids until they grow older and when they just grow little older to play and be mobile they surround you most of the time. There’s no longer just a you, your life has a new centre which are your kids.

Achita Ahuja

Truly, almost every aspect of your world changes and becomes more tedious. It wouldn’t be wrong if I say sometimes it becomes more stressful and complicated. Most of the time you feel crunched in what you wish to do and the needs. But, being a mother, your perspective is always different and you change your priorities to your kids. You change everything to come up second to your kids, may that be friends, household work or your job. Many women see this as a different perspective, they take this period as an opportunity to reinvigorate your life and take control over your happiness. This is the period when you can actually get more time for yourself and have more fun. I know this is tough to realize especially when you recall the nights when your kid awakes and starts crying. You sometimes don’t even get proper sleep and you feel exhausted whole day. In such a situation you can never think of having fun but believe me if you channelize things you will understand how easy it is to take control over your happiness during this period.

Be a kid again

The responsibilities of parenthood can often strip fun and lightness from your life. But you can learn a lot from your children about living in the moment, letting go of everyday stresses and forgetting about what other grownups think. Schedule a time each day to get down and really play with your kids. You can also declare your weekends as a topsy-turvy day. Relive your childhood and do everything a kid would do or like you used to do when you were one. Unleash the kid in you and just let go of the maturity. You may even arrange for your breakfast under the table. Make stories and role play. This way you will not only become a peer to your kid but you will also find a way out to let go of your stress by generating the promoting and positive hormones. Some of you might feel kiddish even while reading this, but you will truly be surprised by how happy being a kid again makes you. You will be surprised to know how kindergarten games lightens your mood and changes your approach to tedious grown-up stuff.
