Alarming Stats: How To Ensure Safety Of Indian Women

A total of about 3,27,394 cases were reported in the country. This figure includes 34,651 cases of rape, 4,437 cases of attempted rape, 59,277 events of kidnappings etc., 7,634 cases of dowry deaths, and a total of about 1,13,403 cases of domestic cruelty et al. The statistics, no doubt, are a real cause for worry. After all, we keep speaking of women empowerment and basic freedom of rights given to women – and now, we have such alarming facts and figures knocking right at our doorsteps.

Also, the number of rape cases went up from the above-given 34,651 in 2015 to 38,947 in 2016. Also, the overall number of crimes against women increased from 3,29,243 in 2015 to 3,38,954 in 2016. A break-up of figures of states reveals that West Bengal registered 19,302 cases, Rajasthan logged 13,811, and Uttar Pradesh was with 11,156 cases of cruelty by husband. Madhya Pradesh ranked first in the sordid list of the number of rapes with 4,882 cases registered, Uttar Pradesh came a close second with 4,816 and Maharashtra with 4,189 cases. The national capital, New Delhi, has a crime rate of 160.4 (in comparison with an average of a much lesser figure of 55.2 for the entire country).

The stats are rather dismal………

Modern day romance The hook up culture

A hook up culture is one of casual dating which may or may not lead to a long term commitment. Messaging and phoning is rampant and to hook up a few conversations gets you into physical intimacy and contact. Talk over a cup of tea makes for a date. Earlier couples used to merit company through the family social circle or a group of friends. Now with the internet boom, social media and Facebook, dating sites have taken over. The individual has become a commodity. A branded site or just an advertisement for various products does the trick. It has become a point of ridicule that dating comes on a mobile app, and true love has indeed become a shopper’s delight. A hook up syndrome has led to a cultural change; just swiping a card and you get a pretty girl to date.
