How would you like to describe your journey?
My journey from Miss India to Bollywood was like a roller coaster ride. The road to success is never linear. I didn’t win first time while competing for Miss India in New England, I was first runner up. But that didn’t stop me from trying again. I mustered up the courage and competed again and won. And that made all the difference. Everyone faces rejection and setbacks. The key is to pick yourself up and keep moving forward.
Do you always wanted to be an actor?
No, actually, I always thought I’d become a doctor. Acting happened accidently; I had come to India to prepare for Miss India Worldwide and I met Tips, they signed me on. Goes to show the magic of time, destiny, and God!
Tell us something more about Monica Gill in real life.
Monica in real life is very simple. She likes her warm cup of coffee in the mornings and lounging around the house in her sweatpants. She watches reality TV shows and obsesses over her little brother all the time.
How do you keep your personal life and professional life intact?
I’ve learned that the key is to know what to keep private and what to make public. Your fans love you and they are curious to know about your personal life. So I let them have those tidbits to maintain the hype. However, things that I hold dear and don’t want becoming dinner table gossip, I keep them private.
