SHUBHDEEP GILL

PROFESSIONAL MAKE UP ARTIST

In the ever-evolving makeup industry with a slew of makeup artists striving to create a name for themselves, we’re proud to see how each of Shubhdeep’s brides look happier and content with themselves. Shubhdeep comes from a multicultural background, growing up between India and Australia.

As a child, she had a strong artistic inclination and an affinity for beauty and fashion. Her natural ability to make clients not only look beautiful, but feel beautiful has made her a favourite among the people of fashion industry. She has done films in Australia and has also been a part of Melbourne fashion week several times. She bounced around trying careers; literature and cultural studies but everything came down to art, fashion and beauty in the end.

When did you know a career in beauty was for you?

I realized that my obsession with beauty products and fashion were more than just vanity, it mean something to me. Growing up I enjoyed drawing, so then I came to find a way to express my creativity and fascination with beauty through the art of makeup. Then I decided to go for a makeup degree from Australia. Fortunately my family has always been extremely supportive to my work and I got so much love from my clients that I feel blessed.

Today’s woman is busier than ever. What is the easiest/quickest way to turn a day/work look into something that works for night out?

Put on a bold lipstick, load on the highlighter and wing your liner- to take your makeup from day to night.

What are your favourite Fall/Winter 2018 beauty trends?

Super long lashes are at the top on the list and the glowing complexion- opt for liquid highlighter and mix them with the foundation.

Some trends can feel a bit out-there for the average woman. What are some comfort-zone-friendly ways to rock the latest trends?

I love how brows can structure your face, so fill in your brows. Also highlighter should be your best friend to get that instant glow.

What three makeup item should no woman leave home without?

Concealer, mascara and lipstick are certainly important.

What has been the biggest challenge of your career?

Raising a child could be challenging at times. With my little one there were times when I had sleepless nights and early morning bookings. But because of my passion towards my work and with the help of my family I was able to balance my work and personal life.

What cosmetic products do you use on a regular basis?

I only use high-end makeup for my clients like- NARS, Bobbi Brown, Armani, makeup forever HD, Smashbox, Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Huda Beauty, and Laura Mercier.

What do you still struggle with when it comes to your artistry?

I am quite punctual which puts me through the struggle of waiting for clients. It gets very hard to do things as planned when the clients don’t turn up on given time, but fortunately I have an amazing team who helps in organising things in order.

When it comes to other makeup artists, who do you, admire the most?

These makeup artists Lilit Caradanian and Helder Marrucci are brilliant.

Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?

Bold statement eyes can add magic to any bride’s appearance whereas picking up foundation way lighter than your actual skin colour and on top of that too much blusher can make you look clownish.

What do you consider to be your biggest accomplishment in your career so far?

I had moments when people screamed my name out of excitement in shopping malls. I am thankful to God for blessing me with so much love.

Do you have any big career dreams for the future?

I am planning to open my own makeup academy in Chandigarh.

SURKHAB ANJUM

PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP ARTIST

Known for her signature style which blends fresh faced beauty with an edge, Surkhab’s work is impressive. Though her plate is plenty full with photo shoots, fashion editorials, and commercial clients, what make her a true gem in the industry is her down-to-earth personality and her love for mentoring.

She is truly a boss babe and a fashionista, Surkhab was born to a respected public figure named - Dr. Sardar Anjum, (Padmashree and a Padmabhushan in literature and poetry) she has been mostly self-taught from the start which was apart from any education. So there's a blend of poetry in the work that she do. She had a passion for makeup since the age of 5. She used to pick up her Mom's red Chanel lipsticks and apply them on herself. Over the years her passion grew and currently she is a freelance Makeup Artist and she has a studio in Panchkula.

What is beauty?

Though it is said that beauty lies in the eye of the beholder but I believe beauty is boundless.

What do makeup artists do?

A true makeup artist will always bring out the best out of the canvas, which here refers to human canvas.

You have an incredible career – what have been your Highlights?

My highlights have been working with House of Misu, Ira Dubey, Nitibha Kaul in Mumbai, and attending beauty events with Mario Dedivanovic and Kim Kardashian West. Also working backstage for fashion shows in Delhi and travelling across the world doing fashion photo shoots, simultaneously bridal as well.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

My mother has been my inspiration all this while as I learned a lot from her which includes the remarkable makeup skills,so whatever I am today is all because of her.
