Ritu Kochhar & Anil Khosla
Glimpse|April 2017

A strong sibling relationship finds that opportunities for spending quality time with the siblings as quality time emerges from quantity time: The more time you spend together, the better chance you have of sharing quality experiences. Eating meals together, talking about the events of the day, sharing joys and defeats, doing household chores together and spending some evenings popping corn and watching movies are examples of shared activities.

Manokriti Bedi

Such live example is of these two, who are inseparable, they have not only kept the magic alive of the relationship by being personally good together but also by doing wonders together professionally. Yes and it is none other than Ritu Kochhar, Founder-INIFD Corporate Director and her brother and business partner Mr. Anil Khosla, CEO at INIFD.

Glimpse sits down with the two adorable siblings, to know more about their prosperous familial relationship.

How did you thought of working together?

Ritu: We have a age difference of eleven years , he is elder to me, so since childhood I have been a pampered little sister whereas for me he is like a mentor , a father figure , somebody I love the most and I look up to for anything and everything. When I finished my twelfth boards in the year 1994, I wanted to do something related to designing but my dad wanted me to give UPSE examination as I was very strong academically. I was really disappointed and teenage depression started hovering me on that time, then Anil bhaiya came to my rescue, and that was the time when we started out with our first INIFD outlet in the year 1995, Though we both didn’t had any sort of background in this profession , Anil bhaiya use to organise big events like beauty pageants before that and I use to collaborate with him in that too. The events were taking too much time and it was hard to handle both the things at a time, so we concentrated on INIFD. As getting into this line was my dream but without him it was impossible.

Anil: In 1994 Ritu cleared NIFT entrance exams after her +2 but being traditional Punjabi family we didn't allow her to join NIFT at Delhi as we have got some negative feedback from a family friend that the atmosphere of the college and the hostel is not good thus we didn't allowed her to join at Delhi. After few months she was upset which pinched me & that was the time we decided to open INIFD. There must be many girls who can't go to Delhi, so one should have a quality institute at Chandigarh itself. Then, the idea strike and it worked out as well, while Ritu was only 18 at that time & now after 22 years its world's largest network.

We came out with its first franchise in Patiala and after that there was no looking back. Without any finances & experience being first generation entrepreneurs starting a small institute at Chandigarh which was never on Fashion Map of India & taking the baton forward to become world's largest network with presence of brand in Indonesia, London, New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Melbourne & Singapore to name a few. When we see world's top design professionals are working for an Indian company it give you a kick and self-satisfaction.

As per your work stories, you seem to be the perfect work companions for each other. But personally, what kind of professional relationship you share?
